Army PT Test Events: Current AFT Events and What Each One Measures

The current Army PT test is the Army Fitness Test, or AFT. It uses five events that cover strength, muscular endurance, work capacity, core endurance, and aerobic endurance.

The five current AFT events

The current AFT events are the 3-Repetition Maximum Deadlift, Hand-Release Push-Up, Sprint-Drag-Carry, Plank, and Two-Mile Run.

These are the events users should expect when searching for the current Army PT test, not the older APFT three-event format.

The legacy ACFT had six events, but the current AFT is built around five scored events.

What each event is for

The deadlift checks lower-body and total-body strength. The hand-release push-up checks upper-body endurance and repetition quality.

The sprint-drag-carry combines speed, loaded movement, and change of direction. The plank checks trunk endurance and position discipline.

The two-mile run checks aerobic endurance and the ability to finish the test under accumulated fatigue.

How this page should be used

Use this guide to understand the test before you calculate a score. Use the calculator when you already know your raw event results.

This split matters for SEO and user experience: event explainers answer what the test includes, while calculator pages answer what a result scores.

For official execution details, always check the current Army or GoArmy source linked below.

How many events are in the current Army PT test?

The current AFT has five scored events: MDL, HRP, SDC, PLK, and 2MR.

Is the standing power throw still part of the current AFT?

No. The Standing Power Throw belongs to the legacy six-event ACFT format, not the current five-event AFT calculator.
