Test overview

What Is The Current Army PT Test?

The current Army PT test is the AFT. It uses five scored events to measure strength, muscular endurance, anaerobic capacity, core endurance, and aerobic endurance. Each scored event can earn up to 100 points.

AFT events

Five Army PT Test Events

These are the five scored events used for current AFT scoring. The calculator uses the same event list when converting raw results into event points.

MDL: 3-Repetition Maximum Deadlift

Soldiers lift with a hex bar for three repetitions. This event assesses lower-body, grip, and core strength.

HRP: Hand-Release Push-Up

Soldiers complete correctly performed hand-release push-ups in two minutes. This event measures upper-body endurance.

SDC: Sprint-Drag-Carry

Soldiers complete five 50-meter shuttles involving sprinting, dragging, lateral movement, carrying, and a final sprint.

PLK: Plank

Soldiers hold a proper plank position for time. This event measures core strength and endurance.

2MR: Two-Mile Run

Soldiers run two miles on a generally flat course. This event measures aerobic endurance.

Standards

Army PT Test Standards

General300

Total points plus 60 points in each scored event.

Combat350

Total points plus 60 points in each scored event.

Event minimum60

Minimum points required for every scored event.

Test day

What To Expect On Army PT Test Day

This page gives a high-level test-day overview. Always follow your unit's current instructions and official Army guidance for administration, event setup, and scoring.

Before The Test

Confirm which standard applies, know your age group and scoring column, and understand the five AFT events before test day.

During The Test

Each event is measured as a raw performance, such as pounds, repetitions, elapsed time, or plank hold time.

After The Test

Raw performances are converted into event points. The final result depends on total score and the 60-point event minimum.

Current vs legacy

How AFT Changed The Army PT Test

The AFT replaced the legacy ACFT as the test of record beginning June 1, 2025. The current AFT keeps MDL, HRP, SDC, PLK, and 2MR, while the Standing Power Throw is no longer part of the scored test.

Alternate events

Alternate Aerobic Events

The AFT scoring tables also include alternate aerobic events shown as Go/No-Go standards, including walk, bike, swim, and row entries. These are separate from the five scored events listed above.
