AFT Alternate Events: Walk, Bike, Swim, Row, and Go/No-Go Standards
Some Soldiers may use alternate aerobic events instead of the two-mile run when eligible. These events should be explained carefully because they are not normal 0-to-100 point replacements.
What AFT alternate events are
The official AFT score tables include alternate aerobic events such as walk, bike, swim, and row.
These events are tied to medical profile eligibility and should not be presented as casual substitutes for the two-mile run.
On a calculator page, alternate events should be labeled separately from the five scored AFT events.
How Go/No-Go scoring works
Alternate aerobic events are handled as Go or No-Go standards. They do not add a normal 0-to-100 event score in the same way as the two-mile run.
That distinction is important because users may expect every event to change total points. Alternate event pages should explain the scoring model before showing standards.
For this site, alternate event logic is already separated in the scoring helper so it does not accidentally inflate total AFT score.
When to verify official guidance
Medical profile and alternate event eligibility can be policy-sensitive. This guide should stay informational and point users to official Army guidance.
The safest user experience is to explain the concept, show how the calculator treats alternate events, and link to official score tables.
When official guidance changes, this article and the calculator source notes should be reviewed together.
Do alternate AFT events give points?
Alternate aerobic events are treated as Go or No-Go standards rather than normal scored events worth up to 100 points.
Can anyone choose an alternate event?
No. Alternate aerobic events are generally tied to medical profile eligibility. Users should confirm current official guidance for their situation.
